OJ Electronics has voluntarily initiated a recall of certain thermostats with built in GFCI

The recall is effective for 240V and 208V applications only

Safety Notice: There is a potential risk of an electric shock from affected thermostats in 240V or 208V applications (not 120V).  In 240V or 208V applications, an electric shock will occur only if you cut, drill, or pound nails into the floor sensor or its cable without first disconnecting the power to thermostat.

OJ Electronics is working with the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and the Canadian Electrical Safety Authority" (ESA) in regards to addressing the affected consumers. You will find the material that has been issued for this purpose in the links below:

No reports of injuries

To date,  OJ Electronics has not received any reports of incidents or injuries related to this identified risk or to any other aspect of the product.

The floor sensor which OJ Electronics uses for its thermostat is double insulated, and more than 4 million of this specific type has been sold worldwide without OJ Electronics having received any reports of anyone being harmed by it. The floor sensor itself is UL recognized as a component separately as well when used in conjunction with the thermostat.

To avoid injury:

  1. do not drill, cut, or pound nails into the thermostat’s floor sensor or its cable; and
  2. participate in the recall if you have a recalled thermostat.
