Control System for Ice & Snow Melting

Control System for Ice & Snow Melting Economical control of snow melting systems in the outdoor area e.g. in walkways, steps, parking areas loading platforms - and also gutters and frostprotection of pipes

Type: ETO2

An intelligent all-in-one solution for ice and snow melting for use in all applications within hydronic as well as electrical heating. Optimal operation is ensured due to output control which makes the system both effective and economical. ETO2 offers you the possibility of snow melting - the green way.

Thermostat functions for minimal energy use

Using readings from temperature and moisture sensors, the controller ensures economical control of power consumption when keeping outdoor areas and roofs free of ice and snow. The moisture sensor is installed in the surface of the outdoor area or placed in the gutter. As soon as moisture is detected, the ETO2 controller activates the snow melting system. Once the sensor has dried out, the thermostat immediately goes in afterrun and the system will continue to provide heat for a predetermined amount of time.

For Gutters - ETO2-4550, ETOR-55 and ETF-744/99:
The sensor type ETOR is designed for mounting in gutters and down pipes etc. ETOR detects moisture, while ETF detects temperature.

For Outdoor areas - ETO2-4550 and ETOG-55 is used:
The sensor type ETOG is designed for embedding into the surface of the outdoor area. ETOG detects ground temperature
and moisture. The air sensor type ETF-744/99 can be used for measuring rapidly temperature decreases.

Remote control:
It is possible to control the ETO2 from an external signal (day/week timer, GSM-module or other signal source) The ETO2 can be switched on/off (standby) and the heating system can be forced on, in the after run time that has been set in the menu.

  • Electronic on/off control up to 11 KW
  • 2 zone control, individually controlled at the same time
  • Economical control - minimising energy consumption
  • Control of electrical or waterbased ice and snow melting systems
  • Detection of temperature and moisture
  • Display and "knob wheel" for easy programming
  • Adjustable moisture sensitivity

FAQ
  • How does the delta/star configuration work?

When snow is detected, snow melting is started in delta configuration. In 'after run' time the controller switches to star configuration (1/3 power). In delta configuration output 1 + 2 is active - in star configuration 1 + 3 is active.

  • Moisture is blank

    Question

There is no yes/no indication on the moisture indicator

    Reply

If the outdoor temperature is above setpoin,t the ETO2 won't look for snow and therefore the moist sensing indication is blank.

  • Output 3

    Question

How do I turn K3 on on the ETO2 controller?

    Reply

K3 is activated when there is a heat demand (snow melting) in 1-zone configuration. In this configuration all 3 relays are activated at the same time.

  • Power Outage

    Question

If the power goes out at the residence, and remains out for a significant period of time (for example, 4 to 6 hours) does this effect the programing to the ET02 controller? Even if power is out, does the unit keep the programmed settings?

    Reply

The settings are stored in a EEPROM which means that the settings will continue to be stored.

  • Snow melt control output voltage

    Question

What is the voltage output of the three output relays? The manual shows .3 x 16amps

    Reply

The three output relays and the alarm relay are all voltage-free (potentinal free) outputs.

  • Supply/return sensor

    Question

If i use ETO2 controller with ETOG-55 outdoor sensor to a water-based 1 zone heating system do I also need to supply/return water temperature sensors?

    Reply

Yes - if you configure the controller to water based you have to connect a supply and return water sensor. If you don't want to supply and return water temperature - change the configuration to Electrical 1-zone.

  • ETO2 adjustment

    Question

I need to calibrate my ETO2+ETOG embedded sensor, as the sensor temperature differs from that showed on the ETO2 display.

    Reply

    1. Disconnect sensor from terminal 11 and 12 (sensor heat) on ETO2
    2. Wait a few hours until the sensor has the same temperature as the ground
    3. Measure real ground/sensor temperature and compare with the temperature shown in the display of the ETO2
    4. Program offset for the relevant sensor to match the difference between the two temperatures (measured / real)
    5. Connect sensor to terminal 11 and 12 on ETO2
